Hello,
Recently I made a CPU upgrade to my R3120us and would like to share my
experience. My machine came with an Athlon XP-M 3000+ (K8 core, socket
754, 1.6 GHz, 256 Kb cache L2, no 64 bits) and I change it for a Mobile
Athlon 64 3400+ 62W (2.2 GHz, 1MB L2, not a DTR).
I realize this is dredging up a really old topic, but jut got inspired
to think about upgrading my 32-bit CPU to something faster. For anyone
who's upgraded, what model CPUs have you found worked and what version
BIOS are you running? I hope to get another two years of life out of
this laptop before I have to replace it

I didn't know our CPU was socketed!!! I agree with Ken, I have had
incredible luck with this hardware.. I've replaced the drive with a
7200RPM 100Gb, and upgraded memory, but would love to upgrade the CPU!

I also have a 3240.

Yep, I needed to clean the fan and keyboards the other day so broke out
the PDF of the hardware guide and it's pretty simple to get to the CPU.
As a plus, after cleaning the heatsink grilles I also used Arctic
Silver on the CPU and things seem to run a bit cooler now.
